Coffee, cocoa and dogs

Have you ever tried something that scared you and you failed miserably?

Have you ever taken a risk that made your life way better?

Tiptoeing into new situations, new groups of people, or trying brand new things can be SO SCARY!! There are 365 days in a year and 365 times that the Bible mentions “fear not.” A coincidence?? I think not!!

God has done incredible, huge, amazing things that would make even the bravest human really scared to try…like making a mountain. Or creating stars from scratch…I don’t think I can do that. I burn toast. And God also put his perfect son Jesus into human hands to raise him and show him love. That’s scary!

But God also gave us 365 instances to boldly, bravely live life WITHOUT FEAR. Sometimes it’s about following through on something with unknown results (like super-timid Moses parting the Red Sea), and other times it talks about not fearing evil, spooky stuff (David in Psalm 23:4). Sometimes it’s an “attention getter” (like Mary’s pregnancy news from the angel).

It’s simple: hang onto God, and you’ll be alright.

  • Psalm 56:3-4 —  O Most High [God], when I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I am not afraid; what can flesh do to me?
    • Context: super scary soldiers trying to trample the dude. It’s scary. IF you can release all fears to God in THAT situation, well, you can do anything!
  • Fear keeps us from thinking clearly, from figuring out what we need to do. In some ways, FEAR is the opposite of LOVE. When you are afraid, you are so worried about the results that you can’t be in the moment. You can’t love God and love God’s people.
  • At Night Strike, I hope we can remember this. Fear Not. Sometimes, our best selves come out of taking a leap of faith and just trying something new. You can always ask for help. You can always feel scared, but you might be very, very, very happy you risked it!

THIS WEEK::
