TONIGHT! Youth Group from 7:00-8:30 pm in the Youth House. Mission project + Song vs Scripture-The Weeknd (Parents, see note at bottom.)

  • TONIGHT. It’s like this:
    • But without choreographed rumbles and without those awesome hairstyles.
    • And without fighting and a weird romance scene.
    • Okay, maybe it’s not like this at all.
  • But we WILL have fun tonight, like these lyrics…
    • “We’re gonna rock it tonight,
We’re gonna jazz it up and have us a ball!”
    • Mission project, hangout time, and Song vs Scripture challenge, using Can’t Feel My Face from The Weeknd

  • Great, great job on Sunday filling those jars for our youth fundraiser…we sell them this Sunday (4 days away).
  • SUNDAY: Show up at 10:00 am and sit with the other youth in the balcony. Then, we will help out with Sunday Funday and then go set up for selling jars. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. I have a bunch of you signed up (remember the Mission Trip Commitment Form?), and anyone can join to help out. We will have youth as “salespeople,” telling our church friends about these awesome gifts. Let’s sell out of jars!
  • DEADLINE SUNDAY, NOV 15:: Youth Mission Trip Form (email me if you have questions; hard copies available at church) DUE! ALSO TRIENNIUM FORMS DUE!!!! (Triennium $200 deposit due 12/1.)
  • OF COURSE, call/email/text me with questions, special situations, etc. Your church loves you and will work with you…we want you to go on these awesome summer trips!!

We are going to listen to The Weeknd’s Can’t Feel My Face tonight, the one song I’ve avoided adding to the Youth Group list. It’s about addiction, and we’re not going heavy into that tonight. That’s for another time with high school only. Tonight, I’m using a trusted resource to discuss why this song is popular, how we spend our time (I just read an article that teens spend up to 9 hours a day on social media!), and how artists and celebs influence each of us, no matter our age. Here it is: . It relates to the Bible study we are using on the person and essence of Jesus, focusing on the book of James. This will be completely appropriate for 6th-12th grades. This will be a BRIEF discussion that I hope you’ll continue in conversation with your youth in the future, using the 3 bolded discussion points above. Find out what they think, discuss what you think about it, and you and your youth can surprise each other with your thoughts and feelings.

We will also have a mission project tonight around THANKS, and it will be fun, easy-going and friendship-making time! Please contact me if you have any questions. Our church office is closed today, so email or call my cell (on every email I send out). Thanks!

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. – James 1:17
