Last week we talked about “Who is God?” and we had a great discussion about the Trinity. But, if you are like me, y’all might be totes confused now. Just who am I praying to? We know that The Father sent us Jesus and that Jesus and the Father sent us the Holy Spirit. We also know that these three separate, distinct and eternal entities are the same essence of God. So when I pray, do I just pick one? Should I pray to all three at the same time? Help!.. I don’t know how to pray!
Luckily, we have this thing called The Bible and it’s super handy for helping us figure stuff out. The Bible is full of examples on how to pray. Here are a few (uh, three to be exact)
- Matthew 6:6 – But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
- John 14:13 – I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son
- Romans 8:26 – Likewise, the Spirit helps us in out weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs to deep for words.
And there you have it! The Bible teaches us to pray
- to The Father
- through Jesus
- in The Holy Spirit
Easy as 1 – 2 – 3 !
See y’all on Wednesday!
