Wow! Lots of wonderful things happening at church this week along with summer events to add to your calendar.  I just wanted to spread the good news and invite everyone to join in the festivities.

First and foremost, many of us welcomed the Designated Pastor Candidate Jeff Binder back to Valley this afternoon at the meet and greet from 1-3pm.  If you didn’t have time to stop by, please plan on attending church tomorrow morning to hear his sermon, share communion, and participate in the congregational meeting following worship for the purpose of calling Reverend Jeff Binder as our Designated Pastor and to vote on his Terms of Call.  Since this is an important event in the life of Valley Church and we want all youth and parents to hear Jeff’s sermon, there will be no Sunday school for youth during worship tomorrow.

For those HS youth attending the July 9-15 mission trip to The DOOR in LA, the second mission trip planning meeting is also tomorrow at 11:15 following worship in the youth house.  Please join your mission trip team Jenny, Trent, Taylor, along with meeting planner Michelle Blair to learn more about this upcoming exciting opportunity to serve the homeless just outside of Hollywood.  We spoke with Elizabeth at The DOOR on Thursday and are looking forward to sharing valuable information with the group tomorrow.  The meeting will finish up by 1pm.

Be there or Be Square this Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 for the spring into summer youth group party!  All youth are invited to join in the festivities as we share a meal, reflect, and play games at the youth house.  Next up will be open youth house and gym on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30.  Dinner will not be provided during the summer months, but please mark your calendars and plan on stopping by, bringing a friend, and hanging out with our new summer interns Hannah Pyle and MacKenzie Spencer.  Your regular youth group leaders John Whitehurst and Trent Sele will also join in the fun on Wednesday evenings in June, July, and August.

Also, we have a new email address for our youth communications at Valley.  The address is: youth@valleycommunity.org.  Please watch for email updates coming from that address and make sure it is not falling into your spam folder.  If you have a question or need an answer, please feel free to email this new address and Hannah, MacKenzie, or myself will respond as quickly as possible.  In addition, weekly postings will continue to occur during the summer months on this blog…

Join the VBS team during the week of July 17-21 to offer a helping hand with our children.  Remember all the fun you had at VBS as a child? Now is the time to give back, serve others, and help share the love and light of Christ with a new generation of VBS campers!  This year, as Galactic Starveyors, we are “searching the visible, discovering the invisible.”  Helpers are needed in the classrooms, in rotations, with worship rally, snack and more.  Register as a volunteer online at valleycommunity.org or RSVP to lizzeschbrown@gmail.com with your name, contact info, availability and desired department.  Summer fun has just begun!  Hope to see you under the stars!!!

And finally, we invite all youth and their families to join us for strawberry shortcake and the Hillsboro HOPS game on July 22 at 5pm.  Please RSVP to Allison Carlson at 5beavs@comcast.net to request the number of tickets your family will need for the game.  Roger Rees at valley has purchased tickets many months ago for our congregation to take in this fun summer inter-generational event.  After the game, we enjoy shortcake and ice cream in the parking lot at a tailgating party.

So much to look forward to in the coming week and months ahead.  Please feel free to email or call with any questions.  Hope to see you tomorrow!

Many blessings,

Allison Carlson
